About the Proximus network
Mobile Internet is the future: smartphone and tablet sales continue to grow while the range of available mobile applications is getting more and more impressive. Belgacom is therefore continuing to invest in its mobile network to enable Internet users to easily access their services and applications, both at home and on the go. The fast 3G network will be extended with 4G or LTE technology.
3G Network
Proximus has the best 3G broadband network, which is already available to 94 % of the population.
- 3G network: the 3G network, also called the UMTS network, is the third-generation network for mobile telephony.
- 3G broadband network: the 3G broadband network, also called HSDPA, takes the UMTS network one step further, enabling even higher speeds. Ultra-rapid surfing via your portable PC or smartphone and watching TV on your smartphone are among the possibilities.
4G Network
4G or LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the successor of 3G (UMTS/HSPA).
Advantages
Thanks to 4G or LTE, access to mobile data and applications increases spectacularly:
- High capacity, allowing the technology to easily absorb the increasing use of the mobile network
- LTE enables data traffic at very high speeds (up to 150 Mbps)
- Sending or downloading data is done in a flash
- You can watch a video on your smartphone, laptop or tablet immediately, almost without any download time
In this way 4G contributes to the further breakthrough of mobile entertainment, mobile security monitoring and m-health, which are all applications that must be
able to rely on a fast and available mobile data connection.
Availability
Belgacom is using the existing 1.8 GHz frequency band for its 4G network and is currently already providing 4G coverage in the city centers of Hasselt, Mons, Waver and the industrial park of Haasrode. At present, some 30 business customers are making use of the 4G network.
Whether 4G will become available to all our customers will depend on the availability of compatible devices and on market demand for 4G.
